Description of ๐Ÿ”„ Norpro Compost Keeper Replacement Filters - 2 Pieces - Stainless Steel - One Size - Black

Measures: Round filter: 7.5"/19cm. Square filter: 5.75"/14.5cm. Filters help absorb odors that compost pails produce. Made as replacement filters for Norpro's Jumbo 1.5 gallon stainless steel compost keeper, item #84. Filters should be changed approximately every 6 months, depending on use, heat and humidity. Do not wash and reuse filters. To replace filters: just pull old filters out and toss. Inside replacement packet are two filters: one square filter and one round filter. Insert the square filter first. Just push it into the lid next to the holes in the lid, using your hands. Insert the round filter second. It goes in the other part of the lid and does not touch the other filter. Just work it in with your hands.

Processed foods in kitchen and dining room

I have been recycling and composting for several years. Looking for a safe container for everyday food storage, I found a very good stainless steel container and accessories that keep kitchen odors and flies away. I use the recommended carbon filters and they work great. I also buy biodegradable plastic bags that we use to fill the bin. Always with Tranquillity.

Pros
  • Special offer
Cons
  • Hard to tell

These filters really help keep the smell of kitchen compost in the compost bin instead of spreading all over the kitchen. I finally got "wise" and about 2 years after I got the compost bin I started putting a bag of vegetables in it from the grocery store and it keeps the rest of the compost bin nice and clean! Yes! I think I've only replaced these filters once or twice, and I think my compost box lasted at least 2, maybe 3 years!

Pros
  • Complete Set
Cons
  • Empty

It does its job well, but think about the size

There are no complaints about the quality of the material. It does what it does and has so far avoided becoming a fruit fly nest like my previous off-brand filter did. Make sure you are aware of the small size of these filters. If you don't have the Norpro models listed here, this filter is likely smaller than your compost bin. I had another brand and found it too small for my large (about 1 gallon) basket. However, I used duct tape to cover the vents and it worked.

Pros
  • Worth the money
Cons
  • Everything is fine

Exactly what you would expect

As others have pointed out, there is nothing about these filters that makes them truly amazing or otherwise terrible. They work as advertised, that's all. One thing I've noticed over the course of use, and which is probably common sense to most people, is that if you empty your little composter frequently, they will last longer. You don't want your food waste to get so high that the filter touches the residue, and you don't want your food to start decomposing: if you allow this to happen tooโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Not cheap but decent
Cons
  • Nothing

I finally found filters that fit my Norpro compost bin. These are two-piece filters filled with activated charcoal that fit into the lid. The thicker square element goes in first and the round filter fits second (closest to the inside of the bucket). two months. Fruit still attracts fruit flies, and very wet waste will mold if you don't empty the bucket very often. My recommendation is to stock up - they're cheap; change them often; and most importantly, DO NOT leave waste in this container for

Pros
  • Quick Change
Cons
  • Almost never
