Bakelite Polish Up

I used this product to polish an antique bakelite radio and it worked great. It's more of a commercial cleaner than a household cleaner and contains silica, but it's safe if you heed the warnings on the label. It was exactly what I wanted and I will continue to use it. Updated May 5, 2016; I used Novus #2 on a plastic cover on an antique dial and the result was better than I expected. There are small holes, but they are not noticeable. The plastic was brittle so I rubbed it lightly in small…

Pleasantly surprised!

I chose this device based on reviews and had pretty high expectations when I got it. For once, my expectations were justified! I had a couple of DVDs I bought a few years ago that had an odd haze from being exposed to DEET (Hint: DO NOT USE DEET). It looks like the spray actually attacked the plastic. Well luckily those DVDs are now $500 (glad I didn't throw them away) so I knew I had to try to fix them. I put a generous amount on each disc and put them in my computer to check. Of the 6 DVDs, 5

Good epoxy polish (top/bar)

I need to restore a shine to a large number of epoxy coated tables and bars, about 340 ft2 in total. Before this product I tried 2 different well known brands mainly used in car detailing but unfortunately without the desired results. For now I skipped all the (wet) sanding steps (400-1500 mesh) and just applied NOVUS 2. I tried the polisher at 1000 rpm and DA with forced rotation at a maximum speed of 600 rpm. I tried foam pads but ended up with wool pads which did the job. Completed 3…

A good polish, not just a filler

Great polish for minor scratches. I've used it on headlight covers (usually polycarbonate), ABS, clear PVC and it's worked well on all of them. The depth of your scratches will determine the quality of polish you use. I start with a finer polish and if that doesn't work I use paint for a finer finish. Novus is number 3 (golf polish). You should always use a finer polish after a finer polish, so you'll have to use polish 2 again, but that way it's easier to tell which one works. I would hesitate

Pros
  • Dope πŸ”₯
Cons
  • Available in white only

I have been using it for the restoration of classic cars and antiques for 20 years. Hard plastics, Lexan, Plexiglas, etc. scratch, dull, yellow, weather and sunbathe and become cloudy with age. The plastic looks old, worn, worn and ugly and in many cases the item it covers or is an accessory can still be in good condition. It spoils the overall picture. Novus can fully restore a new appearance. If you want to do it right, you need all three cleaners. Always start with Novus #1, move on to #2…
