this is my restaurant lens for my f grip. it's sharp, compact and lightweight. I use it for restaurant events when I have a family that is shy. Its moderately wide angle works great when you're sitting at your desk. 1.8 isn't as fast as 1.2 or 1.4, but then you'd give up the size. this one is perfect for this purpose. Some use it as the primary lens for cityscapes. I prefer my 12-40 or 14-150 for this.

I really love this lens.

The lens is of good quality and fits the E-M1 really well. The proportions are perfect. I have read many reviews and I know all the comments from "pixel watchers". Understanding that I shoot simply for the joy of using the equipment, socializing with other people and taking appropriate pride in my photos, this little lens is perfect for me. Much smaller than a zoom, but extremely useful in social situations for both individual and group shots. I also have a 12-40 but I find this lens the most…

Great lens in my arsenal.

Bought for a trip to Europe last year. On previous trips we've found ourselves in museums, cathedrals and dimly lit restaurants or at night events where my standard 14-42 x 3.5 just wasn't able to capture the crisp shots I wanted. I bit the bullet on this trip and bought a 1.8 17mm to fix this problem. We visited Portugal and Spain and I found this lens to be a great addition to my lightweight 4/3 camera. It was easy to carry, well protected with lids and very easy to install when I needed it…

Incredible lens for street photography

Very small lens with excellent sharpness and speed. This could be the perfect 'running' lens for street photography (IMHO) if you want stealth, lightness and ease of use. "Clutch" (pulling back the ring) automatically puts the camera in manual focus (Olympus). and give me incredible compositional flexibility. By the way, once you use it. You'll wonder what's wrong with all lenses. The lens hood is not included and I had to add one. Another discovery is how small it is on the Olympus OMD 1mkii…

Great for outdoor photography, especially at night

A great choice for a versatile lens that can stay on camera. It focuses quickly and takes good pictures. I would suggest a 4x or even 8x ND filter for daytime shots where shallow depth of field is required. I prefer the versatility of a zoom lens when shooting during the day. But when the light gets low and indoors, this little lens has you covered. This is a gem. At $449.00 I think it's about $100.00 overpriced, but the price is determined by supply and demand, not the cost of production. And…
