LOW FRAME RATE for USB microscopes

Unfortunately I didn't know enough about the frame rate when I bought this camera. The frame rate specifications are as follows: Frame rate: 5.6 fps at 4912 x 3684, 18.1 fps at 2456 x 1842, 32.2 fps at 1228 x 922. Note that at the LOWEST resolution this is only 32.2 fps at best amounts to. If you need to record anything from your microscope at any level of detail, don't spend your money on this product! Now I have a totally useless $500 camera.

  • This is amazing

Half functionality on Mac, PC is still better.

I bought two different cameras from the Amscope range but none worked within reason for Mac. One was from the MA family, the other from the MU family. This OMAX camera works quite well with Mac OS. But not perfect. You get about half the functionality of Mac OS. Eventually I gave up and resurrected the old computer. If you want to use all the features of this camera, you need to do the same.

Unbelievable the best of microscopes

Unbelievable! Not cheap but amazing. If you buy this particular camera (as opposed to lower resolution cameras) you will need a faster computer, maybe at least 3.4GHz, maybe more. What I mean is that this works on slower computers but lags at higher resolutions. The photo I've attached is a blood cut seen in my cat's urine. Those round white things are single blood cells. And it wasn't even close to the highest resolution. (By the way, the picture is not true to the original, because we…

Excellent value for money

We were looking for an inexpensive camera that would allow us to take decent pictures of visual imperfections on our products and that's exactly what we got with this OMAX camera. It's easy to set up, the software is way better than what I've seen on similar products, and it even allows us to take some basic reference measurements. It can't be reliably calibrated for use as a primary meter, but it produces clear and fairly detailed images when connected to a quality stereoscope, and the…

I really love this camera

I really love this camera. I got it for Christmas a few years ago. I had to learn how to adjust the software for proper exposure, frame rate, white balance, etc. It took me a while to try different settings before I realized I was taking AWESOME photos and videos. I share them with my daughter who lives in another part of the country - we use Dropbox to share videos and photos and watch them together on the phone. The only thing I complain about is that the price back then was $240 more than it

Good value for money

This is a pretty decent product and gives a good idea of what can get you 10x more. The image quality is very good; but not great. Software features like extended depth of field work well, but not great (although it could perhaps be a little better with better tech - but that's due to the camera's slow response time and the scope isn't rock-solid - once solid - ie to say it is a bit awkward - the more you mess around, the better it gets - in a way.) The main issue (hence the 4 stars, not 5) is…

Great value for camera and photo

This is a pretty good camera at a very low price. I bought this for work. Most likely, we will use it to measure thermal spraying of coatings, analyze the grain structure of materials and assess the quality of the weld. The calibration sled worked well for our application. Measure the layer thickness on a known sample and measure the correct value. (This value was 0.008 inches, so not very small.) Please note that these are my first impressions. I unpacked and installed it today. I will update…

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors
