Despite many bad reviews about this cable, I tried it on my Philips portable DVD player and it worked great. When connected correctly, picture quality is to be expected as for composite video (not as clear as HD, but still a well-rendered upscaled DVD can be as enjoyable as a Blu-Ray, as can portable DVD players and cheap DVD players easily hacked with secret menus to make them all regions sound quality as expected and that's it I highly recommend everyone to try the cable for their needs.

I would have thought "everyone" uses ground as an external connection so I assumed this cable was correct , but apparently some devices are waiting for ground on the second ring and video on the outer one. I suppose there's a historical reason why there are two standards, but I wish we could get rid of the 'other' standard. I bought this cable to interface between a DVD player and a test monitor. It arrived quickly and is beautifully made. When I connected the DVD to the monitor it didn't work. I checked for continuity with a digital multimeter and everything "ringed" fine. I cannot rate this cable. Bought this cable as a backup for use with a mini DV camera to transfer tapes to disc. The connectors are different from the cable I already have. I bought a different brand cable and the connectors were the same as onvian. Maybe there is a newer connection standard that doesn't work with older cameras.
