Decent cheap storage array

I used it to host 4 disks for a ZFS raid setup and TLDR worked fine. However, I had to open the case and make small changes. When I first installed the drives I did a "burn test" to see how well the case was cooling the drives and within 5 minutes I noticed the drives were 90C. Eventually I found out that the fan wasn't working, so I decided to open the back (remove a few screws) and noticed that the yellow power cable was stuck to one of the fan blades, preventing it from spinning. I moved it…

Orico 35 Series 4-bay USB 3.0 case no raid

I bought the Orico 35 Series 4-bay case and expected the same quality and performance as the 35 Series 5-bay case I already own. There are two main differences between them: first, the aluminum body of the four-piece module is 1mm thinner than that of the five-piece module (3mm vs. 4mm). The second problematic difference is the 4-bay device's 10-minute auto-sleep function, which is not affected by the HDD and USB power settings in Windows. To prevent the 4-bay unit from stopping the drives…

But nice hardware.

Chinese manual identical to their website. not good, a google search gives sites all over the world and it's a bit confusing. They claim to have RAID management software, but when they do, it's very well hidden. I thought I found it and there was a button to download it, but when I clicked it I just got back to the same screen. After turning off the computer, the hard drive showed hard drive activity. what has he done? I hope it was the internal RAID, but as far as I can tell I can't tell. I…

just what I need in the Computers and Accessories section

is a more than welcome addition to my storage system repertoire! It replaces older ORICO USB 3.0 external hard drive to SATA I/II/III 3-bay 2.5/3.5" SSD docking station with disk duplicator/offline cloning function, support 3 x 12TB and UASP. The body is absolutely solid and massive. The fan is not very noisy, IMHO. Setting it up took a bit of trial and error. I have a Windowse PC and used the Disk Management tool to initialize two new 512GB SSDs. VERY IMPORTANT NOTES: 1) Since the drive bays…

Doesn't work with 4kn drives, terrible support

I read a lot about USB RAID enclosure before I bought this one. It's very well done. Looks great, good packaging. It was really solid. I have several 6TB SATA drives (circa 2016) that are 4kn drives. According to Orico, this works with all SATA drives. It doesn't recognize these disks at all. He's just signaling me. A look at their very meager manual reveals no mention of what the beep entails. The manual also states that the case has LEDs for each drive, but doesn't specify what they mean. Do…

So you need an enclosure for your drives

This is just a short term review, it was only set up for about a week so long term reliability is not available. This enclosure is part of the Orico 35 series of "DIY Storage" enclosures for multi-bay external hard drives **not** RAID. I chose this over the RAID enclosure because I don't need RAID. I also don't want a NAS with insufficient performance (processor/bandwidth). I just need a relatively inexpensive option for installing multiple drives. Pros: USB 3 speed. However, remember that…
