They are very hard to get to keep where they are needed and very weak. When you first feel resistance to the spoons, they will push through like cheese. Every time after biting off a piece you have to be careful that the spoon is not in the hole you just made, otherwise you will scratch the rim. My new forged supermoto wheels are now missing paint in about three places where they gave up.

Very soft but worked well. Inexpensive enough for one-time use.

They were very soft, just what I was looking for. I didn't want to scratch the rims. As a result (also due to my inexperience with the mount) the protectors gnawed off and I threw them away when the work was done. It's ok, I bought them for one time use and they were cheap enough to write them off without a second thought. My only complaint about the quality is that I put the cord through the soft plastic grommet on one of the pieces. In the end everything worked out.

Pros
  • Molded tongues with attached cords help pull the protectors snugly over the rim for full coverage and protection
Cons
  • Not bad

Won't last long.: Wheels and Tires

I put a 120/70-17 Supermoto tire on it and it did the job perfectly. However, when the next tire was removed, these things stretched greatly under the force of the pry bar, and as the pry bar was rotated, they slid off the rim, leaving a scratch on the rim. They should have made them out of a sturdier/harder material. If you're looking to buy another brand I highly recommend buying a pack of 3 instead of 2. You got at least that part right. Also, the strings are good for pulling onto the rim…

Good cheap DIY tire protector

Bought these to avoid scratching the wheels when I put new tires on my Harley. They did exactly what they were supposed to do and made it really easy. Yes, you can retread and retread a bike tire without ruining the wheel, but it makes things easier and I was able to go through the entire project without worrying about scratching the wheels. They stayed in place until I moved them, doing no more or less than what was intended. When I first saw them I saw their value for their intended purpose…
