Description of OTC 6596 Brake Pad Gauge

OTC's Brake Pad Gauge allows for a definitive measurement of brake pads to determine remaining life. Unique design allows for measurement on the vehicle without the removal of any components in most cases (wheel assembly or brake caliper). Quick, easy verification of brake pad condition via color code scale - Red means No, Green means Go. Crafted from rugged materials to ensure long term performance and durability. To calibrate: when probe tip is in locked position (resting on either body ledge), barrel measurement should be 4mm - adjust set screw and end screw as necessary to achieve 4mm measurement.

I am a techie and I recommend this product.

I am a field technician and I 100% recommend this product, it is effective and accurate and allows for a quick multi-point inspection of brake pads.

Pros
  • Not just useful for its intended purpose
Cons
  • Something else

I really like it though.

I like this because of the concept and it's more convenient to measure without removing the tire, but it's not the best option for all caliper and brake models with wear indicators attached (squeaking) because the Wear indicator interferes with almost every brake pad measuring device.

Pros
  • Easy setup
Cons
  • Almost everything is there

works best in spares

I have this and the old stock sensors. If the other doesn't fit, this one will. It takes a few uses to get used to this product, but it works really well once you get used to reading and using it. Would recommend buying this with another sensor, great addition. Thanks.

Pros
  • A dream come true
Cons
  • Some imperfections

Site measurements, quick and easy!

I was a bit skeptical at first but after a few days of use it was really worth it. It can measure brake pads where conventional sensors cannot, often without even removing the wheel. Such a good instrument, I need to buy another one and monogram it.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Easy to repair

GREAT TOOL TO SAVE LABOR AND TIME! !

I used it to look at the pads on my 2012 Nissan Leaf. This is much better than (A) jacking up the car, (B) pulling the wheels, THEN looking at PAD WEAR AND THEN doing A and B again in reverse order to get moving again. With this little jig you simply prick the WHEELS and get a FAST AND ACCURATE measurement. (This thing shows my REAR PADS need repairs soon!)

Pros
  • great product
Cons
  • not as good as it says

A useful tool to easily and accurately measure how .

A useful tool to easily and accurately measure how many disc brake pads are left without having to remove the wheel unless you are using steel wheels and hubcaps. Arrived quickly and even came in a sturdy plastic case that allows you to store the sensor on the board when not in use. Highly recommended.

Pros
  • Handsome
Cons
  • No mold required

Nice little pressure gauge is the best in the braking system

If you can position the tool to measure it works great. Using it is relatively easy, but the vehicle may not give you access. In some cases I can take the measurement without removing the wheel, in others the wheel should come loose. However, the measurement is done with one hand. Nice to have the number and now using this device will be part of my tire changing routine. One thing, however, is that the sensor must be protected during storage. The first option is to use the small pouch that it…

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • You could choose a newer model
