Pin to Work!: Tools and Equipment

Correcting the mistakes of others is often very difficult, causing knuckles to be knocked and hands skinned without progress being made. This tool solves that problem and allows you to use a regular hammer or air hammer to get the job done without trying to hit the brake area to loosen the stuck pins. The forks fit a variety of pens and make difficult jobs that much easier! The tools are strong and can take a lot of impact and force if they break or slip. The hammer handle is easy to holdโ€ฆ

Reliable quality tools that make the job easier

Replacing the brakes can be a bit of a chore. There's not much wiggle room, and this set definitely makes the job less of a chore. It comes in two versions, one connects to a pneumatic hammer and the other connects to a regular hammer. They're lightweight and easy to use, but solidly made (made in the US) and do their job well without fear of damaging the pin/bolt head. I would definitely recommend this set to mechanics enthusiasts or anyone who just wants their car serviced from time to timeโ€ฆ

Superb craftsmanship, not for everyone

I couldn't figure out what they were used for and in fact I had a technician friend who also sat down and appreciated this tool. I can't recall a single Ford or GM vehicle requiring these brakes, especially since the slide pins are usually well lubricated or in rubber polymer bushings. In the early 1980's my Fords had lubricated pins that never stuck. In any event, if you somehow have a caliper system with pins that can get stuck, this tool is used to slip under the head of the bolt and youโ€ฆ

The right tool for the job

I've worked with a few brakes where someone has either used the wrong lubricant or ignored broken pads and the end result has usually been a stuck caliper bolt. Sometimes removing them is very painful and I usually break my ankles to free myself. The bolt is also often damaged. I've seen videos on youtube where people used everything from cold chisels to screwdrivers to loosen the pins and some people broke the torch and vise to get them out. This is the right tool for the job. This set comesโ€ฆ

A tool not needed until you deal with a stuck caliper

I change brake pads, oil, alternators and belts myself. Some things are so complicated that they are not worth my time. But braking is still something I can do. I know it may take me a lot longer than others, but I like to get my hands dirty from time to time. I work in my father-in-law's garage. He used to fix cars and has a hole in his garage to get under cars and other things that a home mechanic is unlikely to have. Last time I had a caliper stuck and it took me forever to get it out.
