Top product at an average price. Such a deal!

This external hard drive enclosure is a premium product at a mid-range price. As I almost always use existing drives these cases are easy to load, hold the cable well and the included carrying case is great for storage and transport.

Pros
  • Certified
Cons
  • Lots of stuff

Beware of power requirements

Chassis works, but not for all drives without a power supply. The device should have an indication of how many watts are available to the drive. This case works well with the Samsung Evo 800 500GB but not the 1TB drive version which is why I bought it. OWC tech support was nice enough, but somehow defended their choice by not specifying the maximum available power for the drive. Some will just work, some won't.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

Case plus SSD is a very satisfied customer.

I have purchased many Other World Computing (OWC) products over the years; I have always been very satisfied. I really like the clear plastic case. I use it with a Crucial MX300 SATA SSD. There is a good video of the installation process on the Other World Computing website. When connecting to a Late 2016 MacBook Pro, I can confirm that an additional DC plug (AC adapter) is not required as it is powered by the computer. I am very happy with this case.

Pros
  • I have my fingers crossed
Cons
  • Almost everything is fine

Best I've found

I have several of these cases and overall they're pretty good. The body is made of polycarbonate and the "radiator" is made of anodized aluminum, which is nice. It's hard to say how efficient the heatsink is overall, but it generates a significant amount of heat, especially when writing large files. Pros: - High-quality materials - Tough polycarbonate body stands up to everyday use - USB 3.1 Gen 1 fast (more than fast enough for ANY hard drive. May block an SSD, but not by much) - Compatible…

Pros
  • Like all others so far
Cons
  • Negative gift

I have two of these and use one.

I have two of these, have used one for over five years and may get another one soon. This is the only case I will use with a 2.5" mechanical hard drive as it adds many levels of durability. The outer shell is absolutely durable; The aluminum heatsink also acts as an inner basket for the drive itself, providing additional protection. ; and there are even two strips of some sort of transparent rubber pad (more padding) where the heatsink aligns inside the case. But if you want to protect that…

Pros
  • Cool
Cons
  • Can I add something
