The thing was cheap. I've been restocking my camera accessories that I've sold over the last few decades and I remember buying a European made base that did about the same thing but cost hundreds. I believe the weight limit was a bit lower and if you weight it down there would be a ticking noise. You can see in the attached picture that the base is the only non-Manfrotto part. But this part still makes the operation reliable. I use the base as part of a portable stand for my iPad mini.

I installed this and then attached my ball head, tried tightening the thumbscrew to fix the pan position and it looked like a part inside was made out of plastic and fails. I have never turned on my camera before this failed. I also found that when I used my fingers on just one ball head to back off the clamp screw while rotating the pan base, the adjuster would loosen after tightening. Total failure of the product due to the choice of design/material used in production. AVOID THIS PRODUCT

This completes my toolset when it comes to panorama. I use it on my stargazer for night time panoramas and just on a tripod for any other panorama shot I want. If you're using a ball head, you can't unlock it and move it accurately, so you just line it up and rely on it to set the angle you want to rotate. It is very thin and attaches to your ball head without tools. I even added another piece between the camera and the plate so I can move the camera up or back to adjust the lens how you want…

Please note that it has a rubber grip. The rubber upper compresses under load. The heavy rig on this spinner will rock from side to side. You can remove the rubber top, but the rubber will not stick to a flat surface. Instead, it is partially inserted into a circular recess. Thus, removing the rubber pad leaves only a thin ring of material around the perimeter of the rotator, which is not a stable surface for mounting additional equipment.
