The main difficulty with the installation was cutting a 3" x 3" piece of fiberglass tailgate to get the old one out. In the end it was closed when I put the handle cover back on. That's because of the GM design, not this part.

I couldn't get this handle to work. So I took my truck to my mechanic, which I actually wanted to avoid. My mechanic couldn't get the handle to work either because it was defective. After spending $120 my mechanic installed a different grip and now it works fine. Thank you for helping me invest my time and money!

The first handle I received did not have the retaining clips to attach the tailgate rods. Ordered as a replacement, the second tailgate did not have a return spring strong enough to return the tailgate rods to their original position after the handle was pulled. I have disassembled the tailgate 3 times and greased the joints, but it still doesn't work. Very disappointed.

When the part arrived I just had to watch a YouTube video to see how to install it and it fit perfectly. Appearance is almost identical to OEM and it works. The only negative I would say about this product is that the clamps that came with the kit to hold the bars were very flimsy and flimsy. One of them was almost broken but luckily I had some old clips from an OEM part that I replaced and they fit and worked perfectly.

The grip works great, especially for the price. The clamps that actually attach to the bars are terrible. I just broke both of them by hand trying to install it. Easy installation, quality seems comparable to factory. Do yourself a favor and cut off the plastic tab (2.5" x 4") on the tailgate that partially covers the handle. It's completely cloaked anyway and doesn't seem to do anything other than complicate hardware changes. I flashed it with a grinder but it's not even metal. Blade scoring will likely get you through. The 4" cutting disc went through like clockwork.

As others have said both clips broke on my first try to close them. Luckily the originals from 20 years ago were still good and I stole them from the old one to make it work. The replacement grip works very well and runs much smoother than the OEM grip. The instructions for attaching the grip were missing important information about cutting and removing a piece of plastic. I had to go to YouTube to see if the change was necessary. Another problem was the yellow plastic clips. Clips should be closed. I broke one of the clips so I had to put a zip tie over the broken clip. I'll buy it again if needed - just watch a few YouTube videos first.

Overall design and quality is good. The handle seems to stick out too far. You'll have to cut some of the fiberglass to put the handle back in, or you'll have to disassemble the whole gate to get it. It's easier to cut about 1/2 inch of material with a cheap port freight vibratory saw than disassembling the gate. The clamps are too small for the lock shafts, so I had to use the original clamps.
