Beware of the SSD copy file structure and "real " space available

I was backing up files from my computer and found that 250GB of files on my computer increased to >550GB after the backup on the SSD led! After discussions with the manufacturer WD, I decided that the SSD is geared more towards fast playback of large files (music, games, etc.) than storing everyday files. Note. You cannot change this setting for an SSD. So this SSD would only allow me to copy 430GB to a 1TB SSD! It is recommended to use a hard disk. I went back and bought another WD hard…

Fast and Tiny External SSD

Just got it yesterday but so far so good. It's a little smaller than I expected but works well! It does seem to heat up a little during intense recording, but I have no comparative experience with other discs of this style. Warm, but I wouldn't feel hot. The design is nice and it looks great on my desk with my Mac Mini. The included USB-C cable is damn short. It's probably fine if you use it as a portable drive you take with you, but for me it stays connected to my Mac Mini for my photo, music,

WOW! I am impressed!

I am so impressed and VERY pleased. First, I haven't needed an external hard drive for a long time. I had an old 5200RPM USB 2.0 external drive. It held up well for years, but I didn't like pulling the USB adapter out of my MacBook Pro (with USB-C) and large video files were too slow to Transfer. So I was looking for a fast and light USB-C compatible portable drive. When I found the WD My Passport SSD I was very impressed! This thing fits in the palm of my hand and is about 4 credit cards…

Pros
  • External SSD
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

Unreliable - will damage your data

This drive is not reliable. I've used Western Digital hard drives for years with no problems, but without proper product development/quality control they seem to have gotten on the SSD train too quickly. It started corrupting my data from day one. The drive itself does not detect bad sectors, and running CHKDSK and performing a low-level format has no effect. Based on the symptoms I've observed (corrupt blocks in image files, weird color blocking in PDFs, etc.), I suspect the drive is just…
