This drive is not reliable. I've used Western Digital hard drives for years with no problems, but without proper product development/quality control they seem to have gotten on the SSD train too quickly. It started corrupting my data from day one. The drive itself does not detect bad sectors, and running CHKDSK and performing a low-level format has no effect. Based on the symptoms I've observed (corrupt blocks in image files, weird color blocking in PDFs, etc.), I suspect the drive is just littered with bad bits. They're still writable, so the drive won't mark them as bad and just keep using them. Unfortunately, this is no good when you need data integrity. Luckily I discovered the problem on the second day and my data was safely stored elsewhere so I didn't have complete data loss unlike some people. But I could easily do it, and that worries me. SSD is not a new concept and companies have been building solid SSD storage solutions for years - my previous computer had a primary SSD that worked great for over 4 years. That a well-known company like Western Digital can't figure this out in 2021 is a little worrying.
