Geothermal Water Filter

This is exactly the product our northern Michigan plumber double charged us for when he it installed. We need this filter for the well water that feeds the geothermal system that heats/cools the house. This filter does a really good job as the groundwater is quite murky; We have to change it at least twice a year and sometimes three times. It works well and I would recommend it to anyone who has a filter block that uses this form of filter.

Pros
  • KEEP WATER CLEAN and protect your equipment by removing dirt, sand, silt and particles
Cons
  • A Few Little Things

NOT only for chlorinated well water.

Product may be OK IF using chlorinated water but not recommended for well water. I could can't find it in the description to use it for chlorinated water only. I emailed PENTAIR and this was their response. the cellulose is treated as a nutrient. This causes the filter to break down and things to grow. Choose better a filter made of a more inert material such as polyester or polypropylene.

Pros
  • FITS ALL 20" Big Blue housings and can replace any 20" x 4.5" sediment filter
Cons
  • Something else

Finally found a solution to capture sand from my well

I have tried different types of polypropylene filters to capture sand from my well. Sand is clogging the filter on the faucet in my downstairs bathroom. None of them worked properly: the faucet was often clogged within minutes of use, even with new filters that were claimed to work to within 1 micron. I later read that almost every cellulose filter outperforms spunbond filters because it's easier to manufacture with the same hole size (more particles of the specified size are caught). They work

Pros
  • RECOMMENDED for chlorinated water sources
Cons
  • Large and bulky
