Performance Tool 4 Point Wrench

I bought this W7 Performance Tool 4 Point Wrench because I needed an extra flip key for my car. This is the second 4-way performance tool wrench that I have purchased. I have had great success with Performance Tool products because they have always been strong, reliable and durable. I've been looking forward to this folding key for years. I am very happy with my purchase.

Pros
  • This is great
Cons
  • Something different

Not as shown or described in detail. Attention small print.

Does not match the photo or the description. Details say CHROM. Shown is a chrome block. The fine print at the top, at the very end, states that colors may vary. Of course I get black steel that is not chrome plated. I'm sure it will work well, but I specifically wanted a shiny silver to contrast with the dark alcove it's kept in (a black metal storage compartment in an RV with no built-in light). Now it just blends in and it's impossible to see if it's dark outside.

Pros
  • The best in its niche

  • There is a negative

For 21mm look elsewhere

I needed a key for two of my cars. Unfortunately, this wrench doesn't fit every car for two reasons: First, it's definitely an SAE (American Standard) set, not a metric one. I needed 21mm and 13/16 was barely small. Second, the wrench is too thick to use on aftermarket tires. Overall build quality seemed a bit cheap but acceptable. Take it for what it's worth as I haven't strained the tool to check the quality. Not compatible with: Stock 2006 Toyota Matrix rim and ICW Racing Taboo lug nut.

Suitable for travel Trailer wheels

The triangular wrench I used on the trailer wheels snapped. I had an old one that didn't fit in the hole between the spokes of the wheel because the cylinder heads were too thick. I took a chance because the photos showed that the heads aren't too fat. Luckily, lug nuts fit into the limited space available. I did a few quick twists on the trailer eyes and the truck eyes to make sure it didn't break. So far, so good. I now have a wrench that I keep in my trailer when I need to change a roadside…

Much better than what came with your car

This wheelset wrench is exceptionally long and strong, providing enough power for even the weakest tire fitter. This thing looks like it could survive a direct nuclear hit unscathed. Because it's so big, you might have trouble hiding it in your trunk, but you'll be glad you have it if you stumble upon a sticky nut in the middle of nowhere. Buy it and buy a large scissor jack with it. Automakers are making their tire changing tools thinner and thinner, likely to save money and weight. They're…

Not really sturdy wrench

I bought two of these one for my car and the other for my wife. The wrenches are made in Taiwan and seem decent, but the handles are flimsy. There is an overlapping saddle weld joining the two bars together. I could feel the wrench turning slightly under tension as the nut was loosened. The expected torque was not there. Let's hope that single weld doesn't fail, which could result in injury. I can reinforce it with a small U-clip. At $21, that's enough for emergencies, but if you need a wrench…

1/2 " male stem too big

Looks like a useful wrench to keep in the trunk. The wrench (at least the one I have) seems to be a bit bigger. I have too the metric option and the included sockets are interchangeable, but the metric sockets fit a little tighter on the SAE stem with 1/2" male thread, 3/8) but the adapter is 1/2" with x 3/8 "Female x 3/8" male thread is too tight for an SAE socket (however, this adapter is ideal for metric wrenches) a different brand 1/2" head, but you may have to work hard to fit attaching…

Broken in half, used for the first time

This thing literally crumbled in my hands - it broke at the hinge. Upon closer inspection, I realized that two things were wrong. The locking screw on the hinge (Phillips screw and Phillips nut) was made with stripped threads, the Phillips screw fell out and could not be re-threaded by hand. When the bolt came loose and fell under the car, the rest of the hinge was under too much pressure and burst. Of course, the broken outlet was what I needed, and I was a long way from my main tool box. The…
