Works well.: Brake System

Works great for lapping valves on an Onan B43G engine. The label doesn't say what grit it says on the label, but according to Permatex, this mix starts off with a coarse grit, and as it's used, the grit gets finer (larger particles are removed). You can hear the difference when grinding the valves - the sound becomes less "scratchy" over time. Don't unseat the valve when you are nearing the end and want a finer finish as the coarser grit will come back. Be careful using a drill to speed up the…

Decent all round tool for drum mowers

I bought this product to sharpen the blades on my drum mower. This was my first try and I found afterwards that the mower makes cleaner cuts and doesn't require a lot of effort. So I can only assume it worked. The consistency was good, thin enough to spread but not drippy. I used it in direct sunlight and it dried out quicker than I'd like, but that's on me. I dipped my finger in the water and smeared it again. The cleaning didn't go bad. I wiped it down with a damp microfiber and then just…

Great thing - non-standard use

I don't sharpen valves but I do sharpen knives. This rubbing into the skin attached to the wood works extremely well to sharpen any blade. Cover and treat the leather surface completely for the first coat. Let dry and then sharpen. Add a little more composition with each sharpening. After all, there will be a lot of built-in connection and you rarely need to add it. If you're sitting at a nice dining table, newspaper under your sharpener is fine, if you're in your shop or outside, snap it.

Used to sharpen the blades on my drum lawn mower

I used this to sharpen the blades on my old fashioned drum lawn mower. You apply the compound to the blades and then, after changing the wheels, push the mower so they rotate in the opposite direction. Grinding down the bottom flat blade will make them sharper. I learned this sharpening technique on YouTube and it worked great. Some landscapers were having lunch in their truck and watching me march back and forth on the sidewalk with a lawnmower. They thought I didn't understand how to operate…

Should be enough to sharpen 2 reel mowers.

I only found the smaller one (1.5 oz) at the store and ended up using it whole to sharpen the blades on a drum mower. I'm looking to sharpen my blades this season and a friend asked me to do the same so I decided to take a 3 ounce tube and knock out both at once and it turns out cheaper for me because the 1.5 -ounce tube in store is . costs a little over $5. It's really easy to use for sharpening. I usually apply it with my fingertips (gloved, of course) but you can use a bristle brush if you…

Easily sharpened an old Scott cylinder mower

I was looking for a way to sharpen the blades on my mother's old cylinder mower. Due to the cheapness and reluctance to file the sandpaper holder system, I looked at lapping paste kits. The handle is used to rotate the blades. However, a little research revealed that I didn't need a pen. All I had to do was take off the hubcaps and put the gears on the other wheel. Apply lapping compound to the blades, tighten the gap and run the mower down the street/driveway for a few minutes. Replacing the…
