The advantage of this bed is that the inner foam is completely enclosed. The other bed I inherited from a previous adult dog had a cover with an elastic band that held it over the foam leaving the foam underneath exposed. It took my pup no more than 10 minutes to learn how to turn the bed over to get to the foam that ended up all over the house. This is a normal dog bed. I bought this for our little Shih Tzu Filbert who is almost 3 years old now who ripped the filling off his current bed when he was young. Our older Shih Tzu Wally has a very well made Woolrich oval bed; has thick padding and good fabric. I was hoping to find something similar as it seems Woolrich no longer makes these types of beds. I have a 4 month old cairn terrier who loves it! I agree with another reviewer that the inner material is quite thin but my pup is learning not to bite or pull on clothes, sheets etc and she considers this her safe place now. She faints every night. The backing under the bedspread is eggcrate foam with a bunch of protruding cones and is about 2 inches high.
