PH3614 Extra Guard Spin Filter Review

I've seen all the filters on Revain, many with no names and many with mediocre ratings. Then I thought of Fram. I trust Fram with my $40,000 cars and trucks, why not a $2,000 lawnmower. Went to their website and found a cross link to a B&S filter. It's half the price and I no longer worry about a cheap unknown filter. Write the date on the filter upon installation.

I don't know if this is the original application but I use this filter on a 1990 Jeep Cherokee. I removed the oil filter adapter from the side of the cylinder block and mounted this filter directly to the block and it fits perfectly. I've always used fram filters, they've always worked great for me with no issues. So thanks to the folks at Fram Filters for another quality product.

So the filter itself is excellent in terms of performance and installation. But the problem is the distance. The grip tape is useless when trying to remove the filter manually and worst of all it makes the removal tool too small to fit on. This way you will spend 30 minutes scraping the tape so you can remove it with a filter. I won't buy it again for this reason.

Keep this in mind when looking for a fram PH3614 for your Mazda 3. I have a 2013 model, the Amazon website says it is the correct filter. The filter wasn't spinning, so I measured the inside diameter. It's less than OEM! What I did? I drained, wiped and reinstalled the old normal filter. It was the only thing I could do. Revain is the seller and shipper of this part, but the Fram website also states that this is the correct part. Very disappointing.

Almost identical in size to the stock filter on my old John Deere mower. The seal diameter is identical to the OEM. This filter has the same type of oil drain check valve as the OEM. I have the mower running within hours of installing the filter with no problems. Update: A year later on my old JD L110 and no problems. Another oil change for the new season and using the same Fram 3614. It's not green like the OEM but better to have green in your bag than on the filter.

After watching a few YouTube videos explaining them I decided to stop using these cheap filters. What I liked about them is that they are easy to hold. If you have all the hassles of changing the oil, you can do it right and get a better quality filter. In fact, changing your own oil and filter can cost more if you do it right, since most lubes don't make money from oil changes, they want to sell you other services.
