PERFECT PHILIPS LIGHT

PERFECT LIGHTING FOR PLANTS. A VERY GOOD QUALITY. I HAVE TWO RED ROSE BUSHES (LIVE) INDOOR FOR SIX WEEKS BEFORE PLANTING IN SPRING. ROSES FLOW AND CONTINUE TO FLOW IN THE PROCESS OF WAITING. NOW LOOKS FANTASTIC ON THE STREET!

Pros
  • Delightful
Cons
  • Reliable

It's fake but it looks good

Never noticed if it helped my plants. I don't know how it got so many negative reviews and falsely advertised as LED (it's incandescent hence the heat) and still get 4.5 stars overall with over 700 reviews. I use it as a nice light and heat source for plants, but will definitely not buy it again.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

Fits my chameleon

You normally get a B30 bulb for heating but as our house is being sold cold I've upgraded to a B40 and our little booger loves it! The color is pleasant and makes your "room" look natural. And I'm looking forward to getting their live potted plants, so that should help. Can't comment on durability as we've only just received it, plus it's fine to replace all chameleon bulbs about every 6 months.

Pros
  • Delivery was very quick
Cons
  • Some issues

Didn't last as long as expected

Burned out quicker than expected. Used to overwinter some of the plants and flowers from the gardens in the garage, especially the "special" plants that were needed at the start. Spring and save some money. The lamp worked most days and some nights when it was very cold outside so I can't give an approximate number of hours of use but I would say 3-4 months. I had regular spotlights and grow lights and couldn't tell the difference in the growth rate of the plants.

Pros
  • Weight
Cons
  • Definitely bad product

Keeps my plants healthy in winter

I have used this plant light every winter for many years. My house is full of plants. This means that the plants that are on my porch in the warm season have no place for the winter. So I set up a table in my finished basement and hung one of those 120-watt timer lights over it. Has worked great for many years. The lights usually last all winter and usually stop working when it's time to put the plants back on the porch. For less than $10 a year, my plants can survive the winter just fine…

Others with it may have a longer lifespan

No complaints about the results of using it on plants. We have a Meyer lemon tree that stays over the winter and this bulb has produced flowers and fruit while still retaining dark green leaves. However, OUR bulb's lifespan was a far cry from the advertised 1.8 years. We used it to supplement the sunlight we received from a south-facing window for 4 to 6 hours a day, and as another reviewer noted, it lasted for a month. Definitely not worth the cost. Others might have a better lifespan with it,

Works well for low light plants for as little as 4 months.

I've had this light for four months now and it has worked very well. I use it in my bathroom as the only light source for three dimly lit plants. I have a bird's nest fern, a staghorn fern and a house palm. All three plants are doing well and have grown a bit. The light is screwed into the base of the ceiling lamp and the plants are at different heights (from floor to eye level). The bulb gets a little warm but it doesn't bother me and I don't leave it on all day. It usually burns during the…

CFL is a much better choice

I bought 4 of these for plants. I struggled to get them to work well, moving them closer and further, trying to find a good middle ground. The problem with this light is twofold: First, it generates a lot of heat. Second, it has very, very low lumens. Philips puts these at around 270 or 280 lumens. A cheap 150W (42W) CFL produces 2800 lumens with very little heat! Think about it. CFLs are cheaper, generate less heat and have nearly 10 times the luminous flux. Also, this light is more yellow…

Ugly and energy inefficient; Made differently from previous years

I have used these bulbs as chameleon heaters for years (a common off-label use among chameleon owners). They used to work well for this purpose - I have a large vivarium with live plants and using an incandescent bulb removes the heat the animals need but still gives the plants some light. However, the new lightbulbs aren't made the way they used to be, and everything is now colored a weird, ugly blue. I've attached a picture comparing the old bulbs to the new ones I recently ordered - they are
