📀 Philips DVP3960: Multiformat 1080i Upscaling DVD Player with DivX, MP3 & Windows Media Support Review

I bought this DVD player when my boyfriend and I broke up and after moving out I found out I didn't have a DVD player. It works great, is very thin and easy to place next to TV and cable boxes. A bit noisy on startup for such a small chunk, but imperceptible when gaming. This is a good product. I didn't try the special high tech part, I didn't feel the need.

Good DVD player that plays almost all formats. Converted with HDMI cable. I prefer component connections (red/green/blue) at 480p and it looks very good. Has a few sharp edges here and there, but overall looks very good. Cannot be touched by the price. No problems so far - bought 2. Be sure to buy a component or HDMI cable if you have such connections on your TV. Comes with an RCA cable which doesn't give the best picture.

I've been using Amazon for several years and buy all kinds of things on it. I bought this DVD player expecting good value for money. This worked very well for a month or two. After that it just stopped working. No matter which disk I insert, "no disk" is always displayed. By the time I realized the problem it was too late to go back. Now I have a nice non-working DVD player. Please do more research before purchasing this product.

This DVD player is slow. Press the open button and it takes 3-4 seconds to open, so press it harder again for 2 seconds to register a second event and finally open and close the compartment again. Repeat a few times at first and it gets annoying. It takes some time to find the DVD format. When played at 1080i the screen looks fine over HDMI but I'm no expert. Works with many formats I've thrown at it. The only claim to the interface and slowness.

A weak signal between the remote control and the device can be annoying when you want or need to quickly stop, pause, change or cancel a programme. Although there is no dedicated open/close button on the remote control, the disc tray can be opened/closed with the remote control by pressing and holding the stop button for about 4 seconds). Bought the car mid 2008. The car is still running. I used very handy instructions to make the machine "region free" in another review. The machine worked very well. I played region 2 discs very well. I bought the player with the intention of playing discs other than region 0 when it's not available in region 0 so the picture just looks great. I can't play slots every day; but everything was fine. This player plays everything and can easily be disabled by region with a few button presses (do a quick Google search and you'll find it). The front is mirrored so it looks cool when it's on and the display appears behind the mirror. In addition, it is very thin. However, I bought it for the width - if you look at the dimensions you can see that the width is significantly less than a standard 17" or 18" wide component. I needed it to be as narrow as possible to fit on a plant stand under a wall
