This shaver was bought to replace a 6583XL, also from Philips Norelco, which was over 25 years old. The old razor just stopped working one day (didn't respond to the on/off button at all, despite the indicator light showing it was charging etc.). This is the only razor that consistently shaves my rough beard well. I have a thick mustache and the ones on my neck are close and don't protrude.
