solid == small!

Admittedly, as someone used to buying computer hard drives, I'm fixated on a very specific set of physical dimensions. This SSD is about half the size of my smallest external hard drive. It's very convenient to have a full terabyte of high-speed storage in such a small package, and it gives me peace of mind that - being a solid state - something as small as a slight shake of the read/write head will scratch the surface of the data and may destroy all my valuable data. A good buy in my opinion.

Doesn't work with AMD USB 3.1 drivers

The first drive I got had a problem with constant plugging and unplugging, I've tried different cables and the drive only seemed to stay securely connected via USB 2.0 . I thought one of them died upon arrival but I managed to replace it and still have the same issue. I've tried it on my laptop and two other desktops, all of which have AMD processors, so I can assume the drive won't work with AMD drivers. However, if you are using a computer with an Intel processor, I would recommend it.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Works

Stupid fast translations!

My 8GB to 32GB PNY flash drives keep failing in the worst cases after years of use. My Dell laptop is slow when transferring data to flash drives even though it supports USB 3.1 Gen1. My desktop computers of the same generation are significantly faster. I needed to bridge the gap between work and school and 7 flash drives were dropping like flies. It did. The laptop transfers about 118MB and my desktop easily transfers 330MB day and night from flash drives. Worth every penny, storage space hasโ€ฆ

Buy 2x 1TB and Striped RAID 0 on a Mac Thunderbolt. Wow!

I bought two 1TB models. When connecting a Mac Thunderbolt 3 (at 10Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 2) I got about 760Mb/s each on its own, but by creating a bunch of drives and striping the RAID 0 into a pair I got 1350Mb/s . s! It's almost as fast as my internal flash drive. And that's 2TB at this speed for just $250 retail! You only get 760Mbps on the old USB 3.0, so there's no benefit from RAID 0. You can't get these things to work until USB 3.1 Gen 2 is running on your computer. Macs with Thunderbolt2/3โ€ฆ

Good product for storage or backup

PNY 250GB bought specifically for backup images on my new PC with WIN 10. For example, two different cables are supplied for connection. Very portable size. Reasonable price. When connecting, PNY was recognized and displayed in the right places, device manager, explorer. I've started backing up from a PC SSD to a PNY SSD using Macrium Reflect. 61GB is full on the PNY drive. It lasted 36 minutes. Initially, the transfer rate was 500 MB/s. The speed dropped to 275-325 MB/s after 5 minutes. Afterโ€ฆ

Go with higher storage

I order 250GB it comes with 233 actual storage it's ok. I have a very new computer only 1 year old and I am using a Samsung Evo Pro 970 SSD so I can do 3500 reads and 2400 writes. I have USB 3.0 5Gbps ports. So 5 gigabits in megabytes is 625 megabytes. I can only get 400 reads and writes. At 250 100 percent empty. I don't know if the cable can do full speed because the USB-C cable is important, but why send a cable that makes your drive look bad. I think I should have gotten at least 500 writes

Pros
  • External SSDs
Cons
  • Very expensive
