good sound quality for the price

Based on some Honda Goldwing forums this product has been recommended as a speaker replacement for stock front fairing speakers on GL1500 models. Unfortunately, the standard speaker is 5.5 inches and the Polk is only 5 inches, so the mounting holes don't line up. I need to make some changes to install and enjoy the Polk DB501. There are other speakers out there that claim to be "a perfect match" for the GL1500 Goldwing, but I'm not thrilled with the sound quality.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Requires outlet

Very disappointed with these speakers compared to the existing factory speakers installed in my GL1800. My factory set wasn't that bad after all. I wanted to upgrade my rear speakers but the factory premium audio was actually much better. Fits in the rear bays as mentioned on the Goldwing owners web forums, but again not perfectly. Don't expect more than the factory sound or you will be just as disappointed as I was.

Speakers crackle and coil noise is blown, 4 out of 6 junk.

I have 3 pairs of Polkaudio DB 501 coaxial loudspeakers. I have 2 good ones out of 6 loudspeakers. I return 4 and wash my hands. They used to be the speakers of choice for the Honda Goldwing community and now you're lucky if you take a good speaker with you. I no longer play the game, I will return them now. Update: The plastic rings found were not attached to the metal frame. I decided to fill the speaker with epoxy instead of replacing it with even more defective speakers. Apparently, Polk…

I'm not sure how they manage to call these 5 inch speakers

. They have been my first speaker replacement for my 05 Goldwing for about 2 years. When my stereo worked the sound was ok but I put that down to bad sound. good stereo quality on my Goldwing 05. I finally decided to upgrade the stereo with some quality components. Installed a new radio and amp (Rockford Fosgate PMX-2 and PBR4004X), found 2 of my speakers were blown. I don't know how My stereo stopped working for about a year. So now I'm investigating new speakers and I'm starting to notice…

A manufacturing defect ruined the sound quality.

One star for what I currently have in my garage. I bought four of these to install in my '89 GL1500 Goldwing. As expected, I had to pinch the holes and turn them into slots to allow the speakers to fit in the front seats, and I had to sand down most of the two surfaces of the mounting structure to fit in the back (although the hole patterns worked). good there). That's good news. Using scissors or a dam, you can easily mount these to the front of the GL1500. To fit in the back you'll need…

Heavy distortion from both speakers. Update

Installed in the dashboard of a Honda Goldwing. This requires serious disassembly. I have purchased Polk speakers before and have always been satisfied. However, they came "exploded" out of the box. There was no visible damage. After reassembly, the rear speakers worked fine (new Polk 401), but the front ones were severely distorted. I sent the radio in for repair as they suggested this was the problem - dyno tests said OK. I rang the wiring, checked everything fine. Most replaced anyway; is…

Poor packaging and a broken speaker

UPDATE. When I bought them I thought I was buying from Polk Audio. Not so. They can be repaired as Polk no longer makes them. .First, why wasn't this box packed inside another box to protect the speakers during shipping? Speakers are fairly fragile items. Now for the "good". I bought these speakers about ten years ago for a 1983 Honda Goldwing that I owned and loved at the time. Great lows and crisp highs. I bought these for the 1989 Goldwing that I have now and they are just awful. NO bass and
