Great solution to a poor starting design on my old flashlight

My insect repellent https://smile.amazon.com/Flowtron-BK-15D-Electronic-Insect-Coverage/dp/B00004R9VZ was non-ignitable Fluorescent lamp. The problem was narrowed down to the direct wired starter bulb. I decided to improve their design by adding a socket and a replaceable starter. Certainly if it worked beautifully and should result in an excellent start including a capacitor on the starter lamp to reduce electronic noise. Attached is a photo of what is in the metal case.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Slightly dented

. GE starters have much greater mechanical strength due to the aluminum body lugs folded into the end contact bracket. This type of processing easily withstands the torque required to plug the starter into the socket. Chinese varieties have plastic bodies, and when you try to plug them into an outlet, the end connections come loose. We tried different brands of plastic/Chinese starters - they all broke. Buy fluorescent starters from GE and don't waste your money on others.

Pros
  • . An absolute legend.
Cons
  • . Clarity

Worked well in a dirty install

I didn't get a chance to test them in the "tin can" form they are intended for because my fluorescent tube was a very cheap model and the starter broke inside was a "bare" glow tube and a capacitor (at least I think it was a capacitor) with no glass or case around it. So I took a chance and opened up one of them and soldered the contents into the lamp and replaced the burned components. I wasn't even sure of the polarity - which end is which - so I guessed. To my surprise, this clumsy repair…

Just what I needed for my old workbench magnifying lamp

I have an old halo fluorescent magnifying lamp. It started working and I had no problems with it for years. So I thought it was the lightbulb. Well I've learned a thing or two about starters and backup starters. This model is a modern replacement for the old school Hx-2. They're not easy to find locally and Revain had them for a very low price AND readily available. Replaced the starter and assembly at the same time, just in case. and the lamp on the workbench shone as brightly as ever, no…

Nice to get a spare for "vintage parts "

At least in the US: The Energy Policy Act of 2005 stopped the production of magnetic ballasts as of January 1, 2009. Power have new ones Lights up either a quick start or an instant start (no need for a starter at all as electronic ballast is used instead of magnetic ballast). I have an old house and I still have an old faucet in my bathroom that needs an FS-2 starter. . 1 starter is much longer than many bulbs in general. The previous starter I replaced was also a GE brand FS-2 starter and has
