Construction is OK but the pores of the sponge filter are darn small and the air line through the cylinder doesn't have enough energy to pull particles out of the water and trap them in the sponge. I've searched a lot on Revain and other places. I doubt I saw everything, but it was the smallest sponge filter I could find. So if you're looking for small ones, this is probably for you. I bought this for my Betta aquarium. I also bought a Mylivell silent air pump. This filter floats. I used the double ended suction cup that came with the air pump. and it stays good.
