My Volvo has been up for a few years now and the bonnet started to fall off if it wasn't on a perfectly level or slightly sloping spot. They were cheaper than stealing and easy to install. All you need is a simple screwdriver with a small blade. Once I was done installing, I lifted the hood all the way up and parked on a slight incline. The hood was left without fear. Hope they last another 5 years.

I used a regular flathead screwdriver to loosen the c-clips on the old shock absorbers and immediately pulled them out. The new ones immediately got up with a little bump, and now the hood of my wife's Volvo XC 90 doesn't fall on my head! Now the hood, which is tilted forward, slowly rises on its own. The main difference from the old, worn-out one! For the price, the dealer should have just swapped them out.

These gas struts saved the day. The OEM shock absorbers in the hood were removed and I had to use a stick to hold the hood open. Now that I have these new shocks the hood stays open as you would expect. I bet the mechanics in my workshop thank me too! They were easy to install once you know how the mechanics of these dampers/springs work. If you like replacing gas springs/shock absorbers then for the money you can't get any better.
