If you are a sucker for beautiful wood and function.

A thing of function and beauty. I use the board almost daily for the last few months since getting it and holds up well.Treats my knives nice. Boos oil and cream every 2 weeks seems appropriate, especially the first 2 months. Not sure big feet are necessary. Could have been nice to make it reversable.Heavy and built like a tank. If you are a sucker for beautiful wood and function, this is a something to be enjoyed while creating something yummy.

Pros
  • Kitchen Utensils & Gadgets
Cons
  • May require additional care when cutting certain types of food (i.e. meat with bones

John Boos doesn't stand behind their products.

I dont know why John Boos cost so much. Almost every John Boos item I've received has had at least a little damage. The only time I received a John Boos Item without damage was the time I ordered their $250 prep board and they sent me one of their smaller $60 cutting boards instead, it was however in perfect condition. The replacement prep board I ordered was not, unfortunately. When I received this board it was a little banged up but still in an acceptable condition considering I bought it…

Pros
  • Beautiful ! Great for meats.
Cons
  • Prone to warping and cracking

Worth the price for my opinion

I am a New Yorker and rarely cook anything fancy at home but needed a good cutting board to replace the cheap plastic things I had been using. This board is solid and the feet keep it steady on the kitchen counter. It is nice to have a board that has become a part of my kitchen space, rather than something I grab from underneath as needed. Expensive it is. But so is any high quality item. It will last a lifetime and is so well constructed and beautiful to look at that it is almost like a piece…

Pros
  • Cutting Boards
Cons
  • Stainless steel feet may scratch surface of countertops

Had to make some tweaks so to speak but it is all good now.

I love this block it is beautiful and I believe worth a little inconvenience. I ordered this board the 1st time and returned it due to roughness and what looked like nicks/dents in the wood. I did oil it using John Boos products however the roughness for a product at this price point was unbelievable to me- so it was promptly returned. The 2nd block arrived in better condition however still rough but not as rough as the 1st block. I sanded the 2nd block down a little and used the 2 recommended…

Pros
  • John Boos Block CHY-1812175-SSF butcher block cutting board measures 18 inches long, 12 inches wide by 1.75 inches thick
Cons
  • May be too thick for some types of cutting tasks

Big but that is o.k.

It is big and difficult to store but I have a good location for it. Does need to be oiled often so make sure you buy the oil at the time of purchase.

Pros
  • SOOOOO beautiful!!! Well constructed - love the juice catching groove! Can't say enough!
Cons
  • Expensive price point

Came broken for my opinion

Hole was good big for the legs they drilled it too big and put the leg in now of course after return window I will keep writing every bad thing I can I don’t expect this from this brand

Pros
  • This is a truly stunning cutting board.
Cons
  • Heavier weight compared to plastic cutting boards

Buyer Beware good for me

Product arrived with one "foot” detached. Screw hole was stripped. After repairing and reattaching the "foot” the cutting board was wobbly. This was because board was warped. Obviously unsafe to use an unstable cutting board so I had to shim the feet to make the board function properly. Bottom line I purchased the most expensive supposedly highest quality cutting board because it was made in USA but instead received a warped board with only three feet attached. This company should be ashamed of

Pros
  • Hygienic: The end-grain construction of this cutting board ensures that it is incredibly hygienic. The board's fibrous surface helps to minimize the growth of bacteria and other harmful microorganisms, keeping your food safe from contamination
Cons
  • May stain and discolor over time

Good Quality: my feedback

Got the walnut end grain and it’s truly a work of craftsmanship by John Boos, the deep brown/black walnut color is rich and well made. Love it so far, it’s been only a week of using it and hoping it will last for a long time coming.

Pros
  • Made in the USA: Each John Boos Butcher Block and Cutting Board is proudly made in Effingham, Illinois by skilled craftspeople using time honored techniques since 1914
Cons
  • May not fit in standard kitchen cabinets or drawers
