Clean looks like a good product.

Gets 4 stars for the packaging. The side of the bag tore open and coal spilled out. So I put the zipper charcoal in another container. The product itself looks good though. What should coal look like? It was clean and shiny and appeared to be the right grit for my use.

Pros
  • Best in its niche
Cons
  • I really have no complaints about it, everything is fine

We use this in our Nutriteam water still

We use this in our Nutriteam water still instead of overpriced charcoal packs. I simply cut a cheap coffee filter to size, rinse a tablespoon (or less) of this charcoal in a strainer, and place it in the burner's nozzle. Works great for us and the water tastes great.

Pros
  • Durable finish
Cons
  • Not bad

Quality product suitable for fish and aquatic animals

This is a high quality carbon. Constant size, little dust. I bought the wrong size last time. That's the size I needed. I drilled a hole in the side of the face mask filters (organic vapor filter), dumped the old charcoal, filled it with new charcoal, and sealed the hole with a piece of duct tape. Repeat the process as many times as necessary. This way you can save a lot of money. Of course, there are many other uses for it.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • Low maintenance

Best Charcoal for Refilling Water Filters

This is the Right Size Granules for Refilling Activated Carbon Water Filters. Bought to fill my Brita jug filters. Aquarium size charcoal is too big and powdered charcoal is too small. This product works great and is easy to refill as the charcoal flows freely and creates much less dust than other brands of activated charcoal. And of course the water tastes fantastic! Also available in 1 pound.

Pros
  • This is Amazing
Cons
  • Safety

BLACK WATER DUST on aquarium pumps and filters

Note this CARBON is unwashed "activated carbon] To bring the activated carbon to its lowest water filtration quality requires intensive washing, a high pressure water jet over the activated carbon inside the filter is required - the process can take a long time to get clean water] Buyers beware of this dusty, dirty product sold as a water purifier.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly

12 x 40 _what_? at Fish & Aquatic Pets

Seriously - should I rate this product for 'taste'? I believe this may be a good product for someone but the seller cannot tell how small these particles are. The question on the product page was not answered. "12x40" (whatever that means) turned out to be WAY too good for my use. It's almost like beach sand that just oozes out of my filter, leaving nothing useful behind. 12x40 (something) is very normal. If it works for your application, it could be a good product for you. Useless to me.

Pros
  • Best
Cons
  • The packaging is ugly
