My old neoprene knee pad was used and washed quite a bit so it's not the support I used to have. This short sleeve knee brace is well constructed and the rubber bumper under the patella appears to stabilize the patella allowing plenty of movement with minimal stress on the knee. There is a lining, but not thick. There aren't any metal/plastic clasps to worry about and I'm not sure they're helpful.
