Bookkeepers are not worth a dime.

This bookkeeper is not worth a dime. After a week of training I was still confused on how to use the software. I tried to reach the support line and couldn't connect. So I called them and they told me to put the phone number back on hold and wait. When I asked why it was on hold they said it was busy. That was it! After waiting 10 minutes on hold and still being unable to connect, I gave up. In total they charged me $200 for services that I could have gotten from a local small business…

Pros
  • Easy to use - especially for those with little experience
  • Free for the first two weeks - after that, there is a fee
  • Has many options to customize reports - however, these reports don't seem to give any detail as to what each report means - so there is no context for each field
Cons
  • No integration with any third party accounting software (Quickbooks)
  • Only supports QuickBooks Desktop
  • Hasn't been updated since 2010

We use Xero Accounting software and have found it easy to learn and use.

A great bookkeeper who understands small business owners' requirements and cares about providing high quality service. He has worked with us since our inception in 2013 and has become an invaluable member of our team. He offers sound advice on ways to maximize our business income. He works hard to make sure we get paid correctly, he prepares timely and accurate reports and sends them to us promptly. His attention to detail means we never miss a bill.   • Extremely professional and knowledgeable
  • Great communication skills, responds to emails quickly
Cons
  • Not as quick at filing our taxes as we would like
  • Has not always followed our directions regarding keeping track of deposits and checks
  • Cannot balance checkbook every month, as he needs a week or two to do so.

The first thing to do if you are having problems with a bookkeeper is to contact your bank or credit card company.

We had a previous bookkeeper who charged us a lot of money and did a horrible job. After 6 months she was still charging us a fortune and I couldn't find her email so I sent her a reminder email asking for the invoice and never heard back. A week later she emailed me saying that she'd changed jobs and no longer had access to our account so we would need to start paying her again! She never offered to send any invoices to me and when I asked about them, she said she'd lost them (again). That

  • It provides a very easy-to-use tool, making things simple for beginners
Cons
  • The customer support isn't always immediately available and replies come slowly, so it may be worth waiting around before contacting them.
  • When you do contact them, their knowledge base is not always up to date, so you may have to wait until they update it before finding an answer to your question.
