Installed in an extension of the ceiling of my new house. The sound is great, I paired them with a bluetooth wall panel. I made plywood boxes in the ceiling before hanging drywall. The maximum size of the retaining tabs is approximately 1 1/2 inches. Therefore the thickness of your blanket/box should not exceed this value. You can also install directly into drywall if you're remodeling.

Great sounding speaker. I didn't buy them so much for ceiling mounting, but as a full replacement in the Nutone Home Audio System. I figured I'd just take the speaker off the ceiling mount and plug it into a speaker box. Not correct. It's a shame I didn't check with the seller first. Speaker and ceiling mount in one box. I took 3 pairs for my office setup. It is an accounting firm and the owners only wanted to turn on music in the hallways and reception area to hide any possible conversations going on in each office. Extremely easy installation in suspended ceilings. I connected them to a Denon AVRS530BT with each pair connected to R/L/C. UPDATE 9/2/17: Since I first contacted Pyle on 24th June I have not made a decision on the speaker grilles. The ones I received are warped and won't snag on the speaker. I spoke to Joe from the parts department who helped me and explained that the delay was due to the supplier company. Haven't heard of sound yet, but here are two unsolicited tips. First open the box and make sure the tweeter is not upside down and is firmly glued in place. Return the speaker immediately if it moves even slightly. Pyle offers a 1-year warranty, but you'll have to pay shipping both ways, which is the cost of the speaker itself. Second, when installing, hold the speaker in your hand and use a #1 screwdriver to fully tighten and loosen the screw/fastening mechanism several times. Gently line up…

Very satisfied with the sound of them. One star had to be removed because the square grilles were very difficult to snap into place and weren't as secure as the round ones. I didn't want them to jump out of the ceiling and I had to pull the ladder back out. I've tried comparing them to a dozen PDIC61RCs I've recently installed in my house. Installation was relatively easy. After finding a spot between the joists on the ceiling, use the template provided to draw a circle. Used a knife to make a hole and then used a small drywall saw to cut a hole for the speaker, just be patient and follow the line and cut right after the line. My wife kept the vacuum hose close to where I cut so the dust doesn't fly everywhere.
