Great chain guard!

I bought this to use my 2021 Surly Karate Monkey. I was concerned about the fit because most steel bikes have narrower chainstays than carbon or aluminum bikes. However, this protector fits perfectly. I managed to get a nice tight wrap and it stays in place. It also looks so good. Well worth the price, it offers excellent protection, looks better and is much easier to install than old pipe or mastic tape.

Stop slamming the chain!

Pro: No more chain clapping! last. Hopefully the velcro will still hold up after a year, if not I'll just add some zippers. - It can get soaked with oil/dirt as it looks like it is made of sponge material. - The price varies. First time I saw it and I think it was $29. I kept it and after a few weeks the price dropped to $13 and then I bought it. It currently costs $20. Overall it looks like a good buy if you buy it for a low price.

Pros
  • Hard-wearing finish
Cons
  • Ok for the most part, but...

Yes, you need it for riding

I hate to say it, but this great new frame is going to get scratches and chips sooner or later and the first thing you'll see are the chainstays! Yes, your chain hits the chainstays and not only leaves grease, it also leaves scratches or worse. In the past, a steel frame often had a chrome brace to prevent damage, but painted aluminum? Carbon? There is no such happiness. This pillow is pretty simple, a thin layer that looks like neoprene with long velcro straps to keep it securely in place, it…
