Obsolete version of this product

This board has a design issue. The chip that reads and reports the output voltage only reads the output of the boost converter, so it's always 5 volts until the battery dies. This means it doesn't act as a UPS as you can never know how much time is left in the battery. It's a 52pi EP-0118, there's a newer EP-0136 board that fixes this.

Terrible. Not 24W

This product is terrible. I bought it because it was rated for "up to 24 watts". Not even close. In theory, these little solid-state buck converters should be evaluated and maxed out. Assuming 24W is the maximum, that would mean the power rating is around 18W. As I approached 18W it started to flutter and the wattage fluctuated accordingly. This was not isolated on one device but on all 3. Look elsewhere where you need a downconverter.

Pros
  • Sturdy finish
Cons
  • Fragile

Oh, this is gonna hurt.

I have 7 Raspis walking within 10ft doing Artemis Falcon9 Astrophysics flight sims. DISCLAIMER: I do not work for SPACEX. Every Pi system has additional external drives and fans. I have more Pi work elsewhere. I'm not a total Pi newbie. I burned the MakerHawk UPS board. He is DESTROYED. I did it and I am responsible. I don't want my money back. BUT the lack of documentation and support has led to this in my opinion. The device uses ina219 to display volts and current, but WHAT VOLTAGE IS AS…
