Reliable Hardware Company RH 9005 SET Diameter Review

We converted a bookcase with legs into a bookcase with wheels. We've had some unsightly shelving and closet storage and haven't had folding closet doors yet. So we came up with the idea of hiding the unsightly storage with a movable bookshelf that is placed in front of the unsightly ones. The bookcase now stands on these bolted casters and sits on a Berber rug. The bookshelf is FULL of books, many hardcover books. And it's HEAVY. precisely. But we don't have kids, so we didn't worry about that.

I can see that this caster set (Reliable Hardware Company RH-9005-SET-A Swivel Top Caster Plate, Wheel Diameter 2" Zinc, Set of 4) has received fairly high marks in customer reviews. My experience was less than favorable: I bought the set because: 1. Revain describes it as "100lb load capacity per wheel" and 2. the set was very cheap. It's very good for the price. However, I subjected them to the torture test and they failed. They are rated at 100 pounds per wheel. I mounted them on the bottom of some HD Husky shelves totaling about 500 pounds on 4 wheels and they were sloshing around like pancakes in about a week. Yes I put more weight on them than they rated because I wanted to test, some comments said they could easily handle 100lbs but after finding out here I wouldn't put on more than 30-40lbs they sit (on the wheel)…
