Yes, judging by the title, that's nonsense! It worked right out of the box. Feels better than the original. It also connects easily and works well with other devices. Here's the value for money. Use a broken remote for three weeks (channel up and volume didn't work) and everyone is willing to pay whatever it costs to have a remote!

. I was a little hesitant to order this remote as it doesn't look EXACTLY like my old remote. According to the description, it should have matched my Magnavox TV model. And he fits! Not only does it work great - just pop in the batteries - it's BETTER. This remote control is 100 times better than the old one. I love it and will definitely buy it again and recommend it.

I had absolutely no problems with this TV remote, I didn't even know what model Magnavox I had and this bad boy worked perfectly. Batteries plugged in and voila. No programming required. I don't have high hopes for the longevity of the remote as it feels cheap and the bulb is completely exposed at the end, but for $7 and flawless work I'll just buy another one when the time comes.

updated: Works without programming. There are no instructions, packaging, or batteries included (btw, it requires AAA, not AA). It came in a clear plastic bag with nothing on it. For the price, I could have gotten a universal remote to control my Blu-ray. The plastic looks a bit thin.
