Absolutely amazing microphone!

Having been in the broadcast industry for over 20 years and using mics like the RE20 and Shure sm7b, I had my doubts about the much cheaper Rode Procaster. But after the purchase, these doubts immediately disappeared. This thing is really amazing. Does it look like Neumann? Of course not. And that's not his goal. It's designed specifically for the voice, and regardless of the specs you may have seen, it's really great. Ultra clear sound, nice tight bass and just enough closeness when you'reโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Highly rated by testers for support and durability
Cons
  • Functionality

Fantastic mic for broadcast/podcasting at a great price

Fantastic mic for voiceover, podcasting and all radio/broadcast applications. It is very well built with a metal body. Prepare a quality mount/stand as this pup is not lightweight. No fancy buttons or alternate functions on the outside, just a direct mic. It sounds great through my DBX286 and Behringer UMC404HD. It's got plenty of bass, but it's not dirty. The top end is clean but not sharp. It sounds pretty good right out of the box, but really comes alive with a bit of post-processing. Heโ€ฆ

Good solid XLR vocal mic

How it sounds: I love how the Rode Procaster picks up the spoken voice. Very flat with no peaks in frequency response. It has excellent background noise cancellation, at least in my harsh environment. Of the two mics I tried, the Procaster was my favorite. Sensitivity is a bit low so make sure you have a good preamp or audio interface with enough gain and low noise. This is an XLR microphone and requires an audio interface to work with a computer. I use a Motu M2 and it works great with thisโ€ฆ

Great mic just remember to match it with the right interface

A lot of the mic choice comes down to personal taste so I can say the design is incredible, built to last, definitely. I find the sound to be quite clear and flat, making it very versatile for many voice types, which is what it's made for. The proximity effect is notorious, and while plosives and other noise can be avoided with good vocal technique and a wind anti-pop filter, the ideal scenario is to use an anti-pop filter. The noise level it produces is also very controllable and with a goodโ€ฆ

Rode Procaster vs EV RE20

I just bought this mic and tested it last weekend. The bottom line is that it's cheap to my ears compared to my EV RE20 for a lot less money than the RE20's cost. Both microphones are solidly built and clearly designed for heavy use. Both deliver a nice clear sound that is well suited for vocals. I mainly use these two mics for voiceovers and I don't notice much of a difference between them. EV can be a bit stronger in the upper mids, but as I said, I'm not hearing a good sound. handlingโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Best in niche
Cons
  • Low repairability

This is by far the best mic I've bought

I've been using an Audio Technica AT2020 condenser mic for quite some time. Although this is a very good microphone, it is very sensitive to background noise. I needed a dynamic microphone that would pick up my voice with very little or possibly no background noise. I've been reading about the Procaster and thought it might be the right mic for me even though it's a mic that's been around for quite some time. And it was! First impression, the microphone is built like a truck. Solid metal bodyโ€ฆ
