Notched templates with hooked ears are great. I was initially disappointed that there was waste when using pre-cut 5" and 10" pieces, but the upside is you can cut faster and with less precision without shorting out. The 5" template will create a finished 3 1/2" tall hexagon in the quilt. The 10" template will create a finished 7 1/2" tall hexagon in the quilt.

So disappointed. I thought it was a 10 inch half hex. It is NOT 10 inches. Yes, it fits in a 10" layered cake square, but my quilting instructions were for a 10" semi-hexagon with a 10" layered cake. The bottom half (5 x 10) will be the bottom of the sailboat. The top half (5x5 + 5x5) are triangles for the sails. Easy cuts. This 9 1/4" ruler required additional design work and additional math.

These templates work great (put Invisigrip on backing to keep them in place, especially when cutting corners). but these are ok. And they have a blunt tip to make brushing easier. They do what they have to do. Put something on the back, though, to keep them in place - many corner-cutting mistakes are due to the ruler slipping.
