As a newbie to long term food storage, Samson is a great place to start! With a rear fan, large square shelves with an edge, and a sturdy, lockable front cover, it ticks all the boxes and does its job perfectly. I love it. Vegetables and fruits are rubbish. I look forward to firmer foods like meat. Between the Samson food dehydrator and the vacuum sealer, my pantry is ready for power outages and cold weather.

This is a really great dehydrator for the money. Much cheaper than branded models but we've used it non-stop for the last 2 weeks and it still works very well. I also like that there are smaller screen sizes for smaller products. One complaint is that the trays don't fit perfectly in the dehydrator every time, I don't know if they're warped or too small, but fiddling with them can be a little frustrating.

Now in use for the first time. Dry plums, apricots, apples and peaches. The block takes up a lot of counter space, but it's long and tall, not wide. Upper vent does not open. The package came in a box with large holes, tons of tape, crumpled corners, a cut out area where the old tag was and a small section of the twisted styrofoam protection broken off . In other words, this box looked like it had been used for soccer practice before someone returned it and then resent it to me. I've been using the Excalibur 9 Tray Dehydrator for over 15 years. Actually still works perfectly, but the plastic housing breaks at the bottom. This Samson unit arrived today. Packed very securely in the factory carton. It's smaller, only 6 trays, but that's what I wanted. It has a digital timer and temperature control, which is what I wanted too. Excalibur trays are 15" x 15" and will not fit in the dishwasher unless the top shelf is removed. Samson has 12" x 13" trays and they fit perfectly…
