Works great after initial problems

This is an update to my review from a few weeks ago when I gave the motion sensor (2nd gen) only 1 star as it was consistently undetectable. Instead of returning it, I kept trying to reset it, but this proved unsatisfactory. I ended up just opening the device, removing the battery and putting it back in, and everything has been working fine ever since. He never falls. He notices movement immediately. I've created an automation that will alert two SmartThings outlets to turn on when they detect…

Fiction! The magnet resides in the sensor and holds the drywall screws!

These sensors are good. They're small, the range is good, and they also sense temperature. The best thing about the "magnetic mounting system" is that the magnet is in the sensor, not the base. I was able to install them by finding a drywall screw that was close enough to the surface. The magnet in the device fixes it well to the drywall screw! No tape, no glue, no drilling holes. And I can easily move it if I want! For anyone having connection issues, chances are you have a weekly ZigBee mesh.

Pros
  • That's great
Cons
  • boring packaging

Ideal for light control.

These motion detectors work very well. The mounts offer a lot of installation flexibility, connect quickly and are very responsive. It wasn't listed, but they also provide temperature. In the Smart Things app, you can enter an offset for the temperature sensor when calibration is disabled, but you cannot change the "reset" timer. This may be available in an IDE that I haven't tested. These are Zigbee sensors that operate in the 2.4 GHz band (according to FCC ID). It's the same as many Wi-Fi…

Fantastic Motion Sensors

I bought two of these motion sensors in early January. Both are outdoors, but protected from the weather. There's one on my porch, under the eaves opposite the door. The other is in my mailbox outside. The mailbox is made entirely of metal; the motion sensor is attached to the back of the box and held to the device by a magnet; very easy assembly, simply snap on without bracket. When the mailbox is opened, the sensor detects movement and sends a notification to my Smartthings Hub, which…
