works right out of the box

However if you look inside you might think this is for M type SSDs as I originally thought, in fact it is for M and B type NVme SSDs (Type with two holes below). I tested it and it works great on both Mac and Windows. As a tip for buyers to copy their data from an old small drive to a new SSD without risk of loss, there is a live Windows USB called Herin's Boot CD, google it and see how to get it on USB and from boot there. You can copy the entire contents of your old drive to the new drive…

Compatibility Issues - Works

Seems to work fine but my Gigabyte Z370 AORUS Gaming 3 board doesn't like it. Install a 1TB Crucial MX500 SSD. The disk sees, but not used. Didn't let me format. I connected it to my Surface Book 2 and it works great there. CrystalDiskMark 6 formatted and running. I plugged it back into my gigabyte board and it saw the drive. Blocks Explorer (Windows 8.1 Enterprise) when trying to do anything with the drive. Some kind of compatibility issue between it and the board. Got a USB-C to USB-A…

I didn't expect it to be needed, but now I need it.

I bought an SSD because I thought it was the right form factor for me. My gear is (now) "pretty old" but it's not. However, this case means I now have a portable SSD that "just works". I know there are people who don't like the term "just works" but it really is the highest accolade one can get or give in the computing world. Less is a mistake, and more adjectives are just marketers' fevered dreams. Anything that works so well you can forget about it is the best you will ever find.

Simple design, easy to use.

ElecGear M.2 to USB 3.1 Gen2, M2 NGFF Adapter Case is a plastic case that you can put your M2 in. SSD and set the clamp. At first I didn't see "USB 3.1" in the description of the connector, but luckily it was in the laptop. Unfortunately, the data recovery did not help. I'm not sure if the ElecGear M.2 to USB 3.1 Gen2 Enclosure, M2 NGFF Adapter Enclosure actually works. 3 stars which is reasonable. We still need proof that the case is working properly.

Ease of use / excellent protection M2

This device case protects my M2 SSD from the outside of my PC case and allows me to use the capacity of the SSD in addition to the M2 motherboard slot. This allowed me to easily increase the capacity of the SSD in the PC and add the replaced SSD to increase the total capacity. Easy to use, well made and designed. Recommended for low-maintenance m2. In addition, it is completely mobile.
