Good in new condition, bad in refurbished condition.

These rims (if NEW as advertised) are really great rims. Most of my servers use these 300GB drives or the 600GB model. Performance is fantastic and they are reasonably reliable. Highly recommended if you can find them NEW. So here is my review of what I ACTUALLY got from (IB Tech). 2 RECOVERED disks were received with a large number of hours on the device. I have used refurbished Seagate certified drives and factory certified drives extensively in my career. When you return a failed drive to…

These are arguably the most bulletproof mechanical discs in the .

Probably the most bulletproof mechanical discs on the planet. I've been using them for over ten years now and I've never had a single failure. Is always. I just bought another batch for a proactive hot-swap group (*) that has been in production for over 5 1/2 years and is suspending SQL and other transaction intensive workloads without a heartbeat. And I only replaced her because of her age. They still worked with no warnings in the logs. (*) Hot-swappable across multiple production RAID arrays

Surprised it's really new and not refurbished

Two drives were sealed in an anti-static bag and this is exactly what I ordered to replace faulty hard drives in a Dell server. These were brand new drives released in 2012. Although they're only 600GB, they're 15,000rpm (which can be noisy when spinning at max speed), which is in line with what they replaced. Dell System Manager shows a yellow triangle warning that these are not Dell drives, but that's not a problem, they just don't have Dell code in the drive controller. I would definitely…

"New " is not a relative term

Very disappointed! Although this product was sold as NEW and fresh anti-static bags with stickers made it new, it was clearly NOT a new product. These drives were purchased to replace a failed drive in a RAID array. During the process, the disk controller showed that it had a previous configuration, which the controller referred to as "foreign configuration". I used a second "new" drive and got the same results. Since the failed drive needed to be replaced immediately, I cleared this status and

Don't buy them from Amazon third-party sellers!

I bought two sets of 4, one from Yobitech and one from Servertech Inc. Both times they were listed as 'NEW' discs. What did I receive in the mail? FREQUENTLY USED wheels! The drives have moved over 200TB of data and have been in use for over 3 years. Every disc from both companies had media errors, Yobitech had unrecoverable errors. I wasted over a month talking to two companies and getting an RMA. So stay away from sellers on the Amazon marketplace who are selling them as NEW. I guarantee…

Good drive - buy with care

Although this is a Seagate product at the end of its life, it is still very good. I recommend finding out who maintains the drive warranty; seller or manufacturer. Seagate offers a 5-year warranty on this drive if it's part of a special purchase or you're stuck with vendor support - be careful! If this is an important item for you, get this in writing from your dealer before purchasing.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Some flaws

Although the model number is exactly the same, it is NOT a suitable replacement for a Dell branded hard drive of the same model number. When I connected one of them to our RAID, the size was different by 0.12GB and the RAID was not rebuilt. If you need a hard drive to replace your hard drive on a Dell server, especially if it is part of a RAID array, this is NOT the product. I hope this helps someone else make a bad purchase. Further cooperation with the seller on the return was excellent.

Pros
  • New to my collection
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than other options
