Wiring not as expected

Firmware installation failed. After numerous unsuccessful attempts to re-flash my router, I concluded that the green and white wires on my cable were reversed. I'm not sure if this is related to the cable I received or if it's a general issue. I'm just glad the power cable wasn't swapped, as I've been told that accidentally plugging it into the internal pin header is enough to damage the chipset. It's not a bad product for the price, but checking the output before plugging it into a router that

Solid R8000 bricked with this cable

cable worked exactly as advertised. Connect the cable to the JTAG connector on the R8000 motherboard according to the pinout shown (don't forget to use a T10 Torx bit to open the case). DO NOT connect the red wire to anything as it will provide USB power to the port and fry it. I plugged the USB end into my Ubuntu laptop and checked dmesg to find the port name, which was /dev/ttyUSB0 by default. Works great, delivered quickly

For accessing a Ubiquiti router without accessing an external console. Used pigtails to connect, added a serial device and used putty to talk. Ideal.

Buy a cable with the SiLabs CP2012 chipset instead.

This cable does not work well with Jetson Nano or Raspberry Pi. The problem is related to the PL2303TA chipset. Adafruit sells a USB to TTL serial cable with a working SiLabs CP2012 chipset. They claim to have switched to the SiLabs CP2012 chipset because the SiLabs chips seem to have better driver stability and can handle very high speeds and "fancy" non-standard baud rates.

Fixed my locked Netgear Nighthawk R7000 after a failed DD-WRT firmware update

Bad DD-WRT flash. Everything is done as expected. The USB device was automatically recognized in Windows 10 and I successfully connected to the router via serial using Putty. I was then able to use TFTP to download the firmware to the router and it's like new now. The attached photo shows how I connected the TX/RX/GND cables to the R7000 router.
