LARGE SHOOTING SPONGE

Clay tools are among the finest pottery tools. This sponge is great for smoothing or finishing work. People have complained that the sponge is short-lived, but the real question is, what kind of clay are they using the sponge on? Clay with grog will definitely attack the sponge a bit during the time you use it. Smooth clay, like porcelain, should last a very long time with the sponge.

Pros
  • An Absolute Legend
Cons
  • High Price

I often like to use a damp sponge as a finishing touch.

I haven't had a chance to use a sponge, but I'm still very impressed. Lately I've been working with clay that doesn't contain chamotte. I make various pots and critters by hand. I often like to use a damp sponge as a finishing touch to smooth out any imperfections. This sponge is very smooth with no texture so I hope it gives my creations a finished look. It falls completely flat, which is interesting. You just have to wet it to make it plump.

Pros
  • Sturdy design
Cons
  • Not automatic

Also great tool for other clays such as epoxy/resin based clays.

Sponge worked very well. Not sure how long this will take, so that's the unfortunate part, but I used it on epoxy clay, which is notoriously difficult to smooth out. It's not perfect, but that's the nature of clay, not sponge. The sponge did NOT stay dirty as I thought it would be a big problem as it is white and most of the clays are grey. Even the epoxy came out after just gently and slightly pushing the clay away from the center. It seemed to magically move to the edges and then wash out. It

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Doubtful
