Standard for fully loaded touring bikes

While sporty bikes are fitted with 'brifters', combined shift and brake levers, fully loaded touring bikes are typically fitted with bar end shifters for easy repair in the event a tour needs repairs. These derailleurs are easy to install, but I found the derailleur cable to be too short. Having bought several pairs and encountering this problem every time, I say that Shimano should fix this problem. The left derailleur is a friction derailleur, not an index derailleur. To my knowledge the 10…

Fall in love with friction mode!

These switches are amazing! I converted from Sram rotary switches and the difference is day and night. Dura Ace shifts so smoothly and with so little effort. Rear index or friction and front friction only. Indexing works well, but friction mode is even better. I'm finally done indexing! They are not cheap, and once you hold them in your hands, you will understand where the money went. Please make sure your cassette and switch are compatible before purchasing. I use them with a Sram PG-950 9…

Nothing like the original!

In these days of Covid-related shortages of almost everything, but especially recreational items, I was delivered a high-end recumbent tricycle that was supposed to have all Shimano components. The switches at the end of the handlebars were Microshift. I've experienced ghost shifting and only sloppy, clanking, noisy shifting from day one. After 3 attempts by my bike shop to adjust the cable length to fix this issue, I decided to look for Shimano derailleurs to match my other components. Found…

Incredible - Parts & Components

Most "advancements" in bicycle parts technology are aimed at the professional road rider, not the serious hobbyist who just enjoys riding the bike. To the untrained eye, these derailleurs may look like a throwback to yesteryear, but they're actually one of the finest products Shimano makes, outperforming most of their current lineup. They're bulletproof, easy to install and adjust, and have a great ratcheting feel that lets you turn the entire gearing to your liking. For most riders looking for

Works well but awkward to set up

I just drove 2000 miles along the Pacific coast with these switches. Within the first few hundred miles the plastic lever cover on the right side fell off. Admittedly, this is primarily due to the exact geometry of my bike - if the handlebars are turned all the way to the right, the brake cable on the frame can get in the way of the right shifter - but it could have been glued better. I also found this a bit tricky to set up as the behavior of the indexing system changes depending on how you…
