🔧 SILCA 'Hiro' Side-Locking Lever Chuck - High-Performance Carbon Steel Review

Once again, Cilka hits Hiro on the head from the park. A quality piece of essential gear. I've been using Silca pumps for 40 years and this is the best upgrade!

The device is pleasantly small and compact. I particularly like the Shredder external thread at the end of the hose. Sometimes an O-ring grip is not enough to keep the cartridge attached to the Presta stem, especially at pressures around 100psi.

Seems solid but doesn't work as well as the venerable Hirame cartridge. I only had the first one for a year or so and it didn't stretch properly on the stem; Instead of sending it back, I bought a second one right away. This one works, but again not as well as I think it should.

Pretty good quality. Works pretty well. Not good. This isn't the win-win option I expected. The handle is made of stamped metal. No finishing was done, not even a wire brush was brought. Sometimes the pressure does not cause the valve to open. My original Silca cartridges never did (I have three). But it is good. It works well. Just not very well.

It works but I had high hopes of finding the best presta valve adapter. I bought this with a Silca floor pump and to be honest this presta valve adapter is no better than the one that came with the pump. I still find it takes a bit of finesse to get a good seal and tends to lose seal when the tire is inflated. I'll give him some more time to see if there's a technique I need to learn or it all comes back.

I have a Specialized travel air pump - great product to fit in my luggage. Ideal for road bike trips. However, it does have a very annoying screw on the Presta valve mount. This is an expensive but worthwhile solution. Nicely done. It fits in the travel case of the floor pump. It does the job. Overall 5 stars. 4 stars for the value. 65 dollars! For real? Serious? Okay, you have no competition, and at least it's nicely done.

I love it so much this is my second. It's for Presta only but holds firmly to the stem and doesn't leak. Replacing the washer is easy and even has the benefit of threading into the Schrader valve adapter. I would not recommend using it with a clip on a Schrader chuck. Silca sells a crimped Schrader adapter and there are many other alternatives, but it has to be screwed onto the stem of the Schrader valve, so I don't know how practical it would be for those valves (adapters, not this cartridge).

Great product. Makes it much easier to connect your Presta style air pump feed to your bike's hose barb. Also, I have a very tight seal that doesn't allow air to escape even at higher dispensing pressures. Side lever quick release ensures minimal air pressure loss when removing from hose fitting.
