Ideal for scraping old seals off surfaces. But to be honest, when it came to smoothing out the caulk after applying it, I think my finger did a better job. The tool just seemed to scrape off all the new putty or just smudge it. Maybe I didn't use it correctly. The instructions that come with it are really not very good. This gasket remover seems very flimsy BUT it made removing existing gaskets a lot easier. Full disclosure: I had to remove the sealant from the bathroom window. The sealer was poorly applied, very hard and difficult to get at times (I'm 5ft 6in).
