🔧 Simmons Malleable Point Well Drive Cap, 1-1/4 inch Review

I was trying to run a sand fountain point. Made and cracked about 30 punches. He also messed up the strings on my pipe. Now I need to hack this and cut a new thread.

After repeated hits with a sledgehammer this plug remained functional but care must be taken to keep it tight on the pipe threads or else it will deform the pipe if hit with a heavy hammer is beaten .

It took less than 10 hits with a sledgehammer and it broke in two. FYI - these weren't big hits! As you can see, this is nothing but cheap casting. If you just need a cap, fine. When you need a flexible lid. DO NOT BUY!

Broke after about 50 hits with a post hammer. The metal looks brittle. If it were malleable I think it shouldn't break like that. I may not have dressed enough or something. I would not buy again.

It didn't help for me, the cap didn't come off the tube after a hammer blow. It's stuck, it just spins in circles without breaking off. Now I have to dig it up to bring back the top of the well, I wasted a 5ft pipe.

The first one I got did a damn good job to the point where it more or less welded itself to the pipe and I had to get other. The second lasted 5 hits before breaking in half and rocketing off. Quality control should be complete and I definitely won't be buying another one until I've explored other brands.

Threads are full color. I spent so much time cleaning them that I even put this part on the whistle. However, after I cleaned the threads, they didn't thread fully, meaning the hammer blows were spread across the entire thread and not on the top of the pipe where it's stronger. I messed up a piece of pipe and just switched to using a drive coupler and a fence post hammer and then a carefully aimed sledgehammer.
