Works well for the price

Works well for the price. I work in the insurance industry and assess water damage. This will definitely let you know when elevated humidity is present. The downsides are that the maximum value is 39%, but when that happens you know the wall or floor is very wet. If I were a contractor doing the renovations myself, I would spend the money and buy a non-invasive gauge with no pins, as I often choose not to use a gauge because I don't want to damage or cut through the wall. want to test. I'm not saying it's a bad thing per se, BUT the picture is MEDIUM. This is not the case, because from the photo you would think that the humidity sensor is non-contact. The orange part of the device is a cap that you remove to reveal two pins that need to be inserted into the material to be measured. Some detectors use sensor technology - THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM. (Revised) OK, limited to sheets below 8% humidity

This is a nicely packaged, compact unit. The orange protective cap on the styluses is a nice touch, but apparently some have been misled into believing this is a stylus-less model. I bought this to determine when the boards are dry enough (8-12% MC) to be able to make wooden bows. I've tried it on American Sycamore, Black Walnut, Acacia, Black Cherry and Oak and have never been able to get stable readings - I usually get variable readings between 0-2%.
