This device did not work.

I missed the return period to return this item. The item was new. It didn't work the first time I tried to use it. The DVD loaded correctly, but when I inserted the memory card, the device would not read the card.

All required cables are not included!

There weren't any connecting cables to connect my Sony DVD movie camera and I can't find one! Please where can I get it and what size plugs etc? I can't use this wonderful machine because irate didn't have any cables to connect it to my camera.

Does what I need

I use this to transfer Hi-8 tapes recorded on a Sony Comacorder to DVD and make multiple copies of the DVD by connecting to my computer. It's easy to make and the machine has worked flawlessly so far. The lack of a fifth star is because it's not compatible with Mac, so I have to use a PC to copy discs.

Gift for TV & Video

Ordered this item for my brother after he used my early DVDirect. I love mine but my biggest complaint was that I was never quite sure if it was recorded until I played it when I was done. No longer. My brother always knows what he's recording and has broadcast many of his home videos. I also like the extra flash card readers so they can be used as a large memory bank during a long drive if needed. I like my previous version, but Sony has improved the DVDirect with some quality features.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Has some quirks

It's as simple as it gets.

I bought it to transfer some videos from a Hi8 video camera, it couldn't be simpler. I have a Sony camera that connects (4 pin mini) to the recorder, I push a button and transfer everything. I also had some photos from the same event on the XD card and added them to the post. One touch to close the DVD and you're done. Images and videos are played back in very high resolution. All this without connecting to a PC without software is nothing. When you connect it to a computer, the included…

Great product DVD recorder

After years of trying VCD and SVCD I finally bought a Sony VRD-MC1 to burn my analog tapes to DVD. Problem solved! This system works great as a standalone system connected to my analog camcorder or VCR. It also works great when connected to a computer via a USB 2.0 cable. It has full functionality of a DVD drive for a computer and some others. I probably won't use the menu system or the photo slideshow feature on the recorder, preferring to do everything through NERO 6.0. But the versatility of

How much easier can it be?

I've been trying to use my Mac to transfer my home videos from the last few years to DVD for kids to watch. It was so hard to get it to work that I gave up in complete frustration. Too slow, too many steps. Then a friend recommended this car to me after I went to his house and saw him burn HER old video to DVD. This machine makes it incredibly easy. It can stream all formats - mini DVD tapes, old video tapes - in real time (so you can edit if you want, or just go away and do something else…

Disappointed with Sony

Got this Sony VRD-MC1 to transfer DV tapes to DVD. Was hoping to get an easy to use recorder. So far I am not very satisfied with the device. Pros: Easy to use, records great, copy quality is the same as watching from a DV tape, no quality loss in transfer. Now for the bad: The problem I have is that the DVD-R cannot be played on all the DVD players I have. The electronics industry does not make life easier for consumers. I don't understand why they have to be in so many different formats. What

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Actually, I have no negative feelings about it, everything is fine.
